Tim Burton tops US box office

Tim Burton's new fantasy adventure Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children has topped the US box office, taking in $28.5m in its first weekend and beating Mark Wahlberg's oil rig disaster movie, Deepwater Horizon, to the top spot.

The movie marks Burton's first foray into big budget Hollywood movies since Dark Shadows in 2012 starring Johnny Depp, which didn't do well at the box office. Burton's latest movie cost $110m to make.

 Deepwater Horizon, starring Mark Wahlberg chronicles the worst oil spill in history which happened in 2010 on the BP oil in the Gulf of Mexico.The movie earned £20.6m in its first weekend.
